Ravina Baruah & Srijana Baruah:
Collection Theme / Name: Bonfire
Collection Brief:
As the winter chill sets in, many cultures and countries around the
planet celebrate the change of season with much laughter, joy and
togetherness. The collection titled ‘bonfire’ is a celebration of
this festive spirit which engulfs the beautiful states of the north
eastern India as well. The collection Bonfire is designed seeking
inspiration from the textiles and motifs native to the States of North
East. The unique textiles found in these States are a result of a rich
weaving tradition prevalent in the region since the beginning of time.
The motifs used in these traditional weaves are the abstract forms of
birds, animals, butterflies and flowers. Many a time such motifs are
sequenced depicting a scene of famous folktales of the region. The
collection has been created using mostly rare organic fabrics like Eri (warm silk) ,Eri Muga (mixture of Eri silk and Muga silk),eri cotton(mixture of eri and cotton)and Muga(golden silk) which
are excellent for use during winters. The natural colours of the
fabrics i.e. ivory, pale gold and beige are combined with vibrant hues
like maroon, coral, deep green, saffron, royal blue and black to keep
the essence of festivity alive and to add drama to the collection. The
silhouettes are elegant with a hint of vintage. Structured dresses,
fluffy gowns, tulip frocks, jumpsuits and hand painted dresses complete
the collection. The bold and bright colours of these magnificent weaves
are reminiscent of the festive spirit which is an integral part of the
lives of the people of the region and the bonfire an inseparable
