Giraffe makes a splash in hotel pool Golf club has a leggy guest

A GOLF club receives a visit from an unlikely guest — a giraffe who fancies a dip in their swimming pool. 

 

The leggy swimmer is a regular sight at the Kilimanjaro Golf and Wildlife Estate, where he goes to see the workers who hand-reared him as a baby.
Three-year-old Monduli likes nothing more than cooling off from the African heat with a swim in their pool.
There might be plenty of water to clear up, but at least health and safety reps can rest assured their 13-foot guest won’t drown.
And the giraffe’s talents aren’t restricted to swimming. He also sticks his neck out trying to play football at the estate’s polo club — but often ends up scaring visiting polo ponies.
Monduli is the only giraffe in the area of African bush the sprawling estate is set in, and workers are worried that he is lonely - despite his larger than life character.
General Manager Zummi Cardoso says Monduli now thinks of himself as a cross between a horse and a guest.

He said: “He has been with us for about three years and we bottle and bucket fed him milk for more than a year.
“He is accompanied by lots of zebra, wildebeest, eland, tommies grants, and gerenuk - but he thinks he is a human being, hence the dip in the pool.
“Monduli sometimes joins in with football games at the polo club and regularly scares visiting polo ponies.
"He loves to take part in any activities at the club and even if he’s not welcome he cannot be easily dissuaded."
Another of Monduli’s hobbies is gardening - by munching through plants he finds.
Zummi said: "He regularly trims all the plants around the club when he has had enough of the ample acacias we have on the estate."
But it’s cars that really get Monduli’s engine revving.
Zummi revealed: “One or two seem to get his attention and he has attempted to mount those chosen ones.
“He got his leg caught between the bumper of our pick up and dragged it for more than a metre to get dislodged.”
But there’s no chance of Monduli becoming the next Neck Faldo — so far he hasn’t shown any interest playing a round on the estate’s 18-hole golf course.
