VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: WEBMASTER (ks)
The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged
with spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by
promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa
and African States as well as developing a new partnership worldwide. Its
Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.
In seeking to achieve this objective, the African Union intends to strengthen its
capacity to deliver by, among others, the implementation of its organizational
structure and the filling of all vacant posts.
1. Post:
Job title: WEBMASTER (KISWAHILI)
Grade: P2
Supervisor: Web Administrator
Directorate: Information and Communication
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
2. Major duties and responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Web Administrator, the responsibilities and duties
of the incumbent shall include the following:
1. Develop internal and external websites using web and portal technologies;
2. Compile and ensure timely dissemination of the organizations’ documents,
audio- visual materials and photos, received from departments, regional
offices and the AU organs;
3. Proof read content and edit visual materials before uploading onto the
website
4. Assist the web administrator in the management and administration of the
web server
5. Ensure and protect the confidentiality of the activities of the AU
6. Update and maintain the Kiswahili web site on a daily basis and create
necessary links on the website
7. Assist the web administrator in managing all correspondences coming
through the webmaster’s address including ensuring the proper delivery of
emails to the relevant personnel within the AU Commission
8. Assist the web administrator in managing domain names of the AU

9. Perform requirement analysis to develop special website pages for AU
Departments, regional offices and programmes; the analyses should go to
web administrator
10. Developing special pages for AU Departments, regional offices and
programmes;
11. Preparation of power point presentations to popularize the African Union to
specific audiences
12. Contribute to the implementation of website related projects;
13. Attend meetings and generate relevant content;
14. Designing printed information materials to popularize the AU
15. Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisors.
4. Qualifications and Experience Required
Candidates must have a minimum Bachelor University degree in computer science/
information system with expertise in the following fields: communication and/or
information, Media/Journalism, Marketing, and Public Relations.
5. Professional experience required:
Candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years of professional, progressively
relevant experience in the following:
‐ Designing and administration of websites;
‐ Working knowledge of web design, Drupal, Joomla. Word press, HTML,
CSS, JAVA, PERL and the implementation of scripts such as CGI and
ASP to generate web pages dynamically within a Content Management
System as well as preparing the Templates including database
programming and SQL;
‐ Expertise on internet software and hardware (web browsers, email,
modems, scanners and other peripherals)
6. Other relevant skills
Excellent knowledge of Information Technology networks and their tools of
administration;
Proficiency with graphics programs, back-end applications, and server
functions;
Knowledge of desk top publishing
Ability to work a flexible schedule including participation in special events
and critical situations during evenings and weekends;
Must be a self-starter and able to navigate within a large organization:
Professional attitude with exceptional verbal communication skills in
Kiswahili, editing skills, project management, organizational, interpersonal
and time management skills;
Excellent written communication skills in Kiswahili and ability translate
content from one of the official languages of the AU to Portuguese. 3
Action-oriented, high initiative, good problem-solving skills, and
independent thinking;
Highly organized individual with exceptional attention to detail;
The ability to work under pressure;
Excellent drafting and reporting skills;
7. Language requirement
Proficiency in Kiswahili plus one of the African Union working languages.
8. Age requirement:
Candidates must preferably be between 25 and 35 years old.
9. Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3)
years, of with the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary
period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable,
subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables.

11. Remuneration: Indicative basic salary of US$27,892.00 per annum plus
other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing
allowance ($16,819.20 per annum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other
education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of
US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the
Commission.
