The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is seeking to recruit a qualified, motivated and experienced HIV/AIDS PMTCT Specialist who will be accountable for the formulation, design, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of elimination of Mother- to- Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV/AIDS and Paediatric AIDS interventions within the Health and Nutrition programme.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Participate in regular data-driven situational analyses (including epidemiological, gender equality and emergency assessments).
  2. Provide policy, technical and operational guidance and support to government and non-government partners on implementation of eMTCT and Paediatric AIDS interventions including realization of elimination of MTCT targets and advocacy in gender equality, emergency preparedness and response.
  3. Contribute to the development and implementation of detailed regional and district work-plans and budgets for eMTCT and Paediatric AIDS interventions with particular emphasis on under-served populations; and participate in periodic programme reviews with Government counterparts and other partners; Document and disseminate lessons learned on scaling-up of EMTCT and Paediatric AIDS interventions at the national and subnational levels. Contribute to the preparation of relevant sections of the annual Health sector status reports; Submit transparent and timely reports to donors and other partners.
  4. Conduct regular field visits to monitor related programmes and use of related supplies and other resources donated to the government and non-government partners; Ensure related UNICEF, government and non-government staff comply with UNICEF’s financial rules.
  5. Maintain close working relationships with other related UNICEF sectors, particularly Maternal and child Health, nutrition, HIV, WASH, and communication for development; Coordinate with related UNICEF Regional Advisers and HQ Officers to ensure strategies are aligned with global and regional strategies; Establish active and participatory partnerships with related Health sector stakeholders (Government, WHO, other UN agencies, NGOs and bilateral agencies).
EDUCATION: 

Advanced degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Public Health, Medicine, Primary Health Care, Family Health, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, or a field relevant to international development assistance in Health and HIV and AIDS.

WORK EXPERIENCE: 

Five years of relevant professional work experience. Experience working in the UN or other international development organization, and field work experience and background/familiarity with Emergency and gender mainstreaming will be an asset

LANGUAGE: 

Fluency in English and Kiswahili
