April saw Tanzania’s inflation rate record an 8.6%, as energy and food prices take an upward trend.
In March, the inflation rate was at an 8%, Ephraim Kwesigabo, an official at the National Bureau of Statistics, told reporters yesterdat in Dar es Salaam.
Annual food-price inflation rose to 9.2% in April from 8.3% in March, “Food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation rate went up to 9.7 % for the year ending April 2011 from 8.6% registered in March 2011,” Kwesigabo said.
He said food prices that included cereals, fruits bread, and powdered milk among other were some of the responsible factors among the inflation hike.
He however said there was a registered rise in the inflation rate for energy rising to 22.1% in April from 17.2% that was recorded in March adding that this would have an overall impact on the prices of other commodities in general.
