Dar hosts academic fair on British universities

11:57 PM

About 25 UK-based universities and other higher learning institutions have taken part in a two-day exhibition in Dar es Salaam meant to allow students know better about universities they want to join for further studies.

The exhibition, which ended on Wednesday, was attended by hundreds of students from higher learning institutions and secondary schools, who wish to go for further studies in the United Kingdom.

Speaking to 'The Guardian' yesterday, Tanzania university coordinator and programme counsellor Azmina Nanji said the aim was to provide opportunities for Tanzanian students to get correct information about the universities they intended to join for further studies.

“We are here to provide information through the exhibition about 25 universities and higher learning institutions found in the UK for free for Tanzanians who wish to pursue their degree and postgraduate courses in the UK,” Nanji said.

She said many Tanzanians wished to study in the UK but didn’t have enough and correct information about university programmes and how to register with them.

Nanji explained that universities which took part in the exhibition had dispatched their staff to assist students to access important information about the universities.

She said similar exhibitions were also held in Nairobi and Mombasa a few days ago.

“After here we will have the same exhibition in Kampala and Kigali, Rwanda. We don’t deal with sponsors but we can provide the information to universities, which provide scholarships according to terms and conditions provided by the respective universities,” she noted.
