$104 million for underfunded humanitarian crises

hirteen humanitarian crises around the world, that have been identified as underfunded by the United Nations are to get an additional $104 million.
The thirteen countries that will benefit from the UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund or CERF are mainly in Africa, but include four countries in Asia.
Steve O’Malley, the CERF chief, says the emergency funding plays a crucial role.
“What this money does is it allows countries where we cannot get enough funds to mange humanitarian operations, it provides an injection for those countries to help them get their programmes off the ground at the beginning of the year.” (Duration: 12″)
The money goes to UN agencies in individual countries and is awarded twice a year.
Sudan is receiving the highest allocation of funds, some $20 million.
